Going to Mexico(Playa Del Carmen Area)

I am going to Mexico next week for 2 weeks.

What is biting there this time of year?

Who should I go with, any recommendations!

I will be scuba diving mostly but would love to do a offshore fishing trip while I am there.

    Thanks

    Shane

This time of year, I would think mostly inshore species like permit, tarpon, bones, maybe snook are your best options. What were you thinking about inshore or off?

    Playa del Carmen Report

    Shane,
I just got back from Playa del Carmen. Stayed at the Mayan Palace just north of town.
This was a vacation with some fishing on the side.
Was only able to fish one day due to high winds. Fished with Capt. Rick's Sport Fishing in Puerto Adventuras. PA is about 45 minutes from town. Click here for link.
Fishing was decent but, by no means extraordinary. Left the harbor and in 5 minutes outriggers go down and we start trolling. Rigged ballyhoo's and small jet head's were trolled with a mix of TLD 20's and Peen 50 Internationals. Tackle was in operating condition. Action was pretty steady as we trolled south along the drop off just past the reef. In site of land all day.
    Bonito, Wahoo and King Mackerel.
Trolled to Tulum and started back north. Moved in shore and did a few drifts bottom fishing. Caught an assortment of species. Snapper, Triggerfish, small grouper and another King.
The boat, a 1982 31 Tiara "Reel Loco" (which had seen better days) cost $690 for an 8 hour day. There are other larger and smaller boats available.
To sum it up fishing was OK. I have been spoiled at other destinations (Cabo, Puerto Vallarta) so I guess it depends on what you are looking for. My goal was to get some fresh fish for Ceviche and fish taco's prepared at the local restaurants. Mission accomplished.
PM me if you would like any other information.
    Doug

I fished there. I had 12 bones from 2-3lbs on the fly and I hooked and broke off a permit. My dad had a bunch on a spinning rod and a jig. They will pick you up in playa and drive you down to the resort for the day. Its a beautiful drive down there with some of the most beautiful deserted beaches I have seen
