re: Casa Vieja Lodge

Guys, I just went to the store where they are going to mount the photo I am donating to TBF. It will be ready by Wed and then I will ship it to Florida, I think their auction is the 30th.

Marlin Hunter mentioned Casa Vieja Lodge in Guatemala. I have very fond memories of it! Beautiful place and outstanding fishing- that is, if you don't mind 20-40 sails per day. I swear I was just thinking about the shrimp that they have there for dinner. They are huge and so fresh it's ridiculous.

One of my fav shots I've taken is this one right here:

I love taking photos of fish but I also enjoy land based photography and that place was fun to shoot.

Every night before bed I would ask for a glass of milk from the staff and I would be brought this milk that was like nothing I have ever tasted. They said it was from nearby Pinas or something. My wife is from rural mainland Mexico and when I told her about this insanely fresh milk she said she had tasted stuff like that before where she grew up. I'm not even a big fan of milk but that stuff was delicious.

It may sound silly to talk about shrimp and milk on a fishing forum but the food there was that good, and I am not just blowing smoke. I wrote an article on my visit to Casa Vieja Lodge, and it can be read here.

Marlin Hunter (is that herb or Al?), you need not wait long to see one of the fish caught at Casa Vieja. The next issue of Bluewater Boats that's coming out Nov.4 will have a covershot that I took of one of your sails. I'd like to send you guys a photo on canvas for the lodge, so email me and let's have Jim T. pick one out.
