Offshore action in Southern California has slowed WAY down in the last two weeks. There are some Yellow Tail being caught at Cortes Bank and Tanner Bank which basically requires a 1.5 day charter or party boat. Best to take that trip from Newport Landing or Dana Point Landings as the ride is shorter than from San Diego landings.

Inshore action on Threshers is starting to heat up it appears, with several reports of catches in the last two weeks up to 150lbs from what I was told. Spring is better IMO but there will be some slobs caught for sure. Mr. Mako will likely be around as well for the next couple of weeks, tey the Weather Buoy in LaJolla, or the 9mile bank out of mission beach. Need info or charter talk to the boys at Dana Landing tackle and charter and market in Pacific Beach, San Diego at http://www.danalanding.com/

Ask for Steve and tell him an OLD employee Curtis sent ya...
The deli makes killer sandwiches there as well

BAJA- Well, this is where you should be going over SOCAL for sure.

Magdalena Bay is well down Baja Sur, but they are having VERY GOOD reports of Dorado, Marlin, YFT in big numbers right now. You can fly down there out of San Diego I believe. Not too sure on charters, but I could get info for ya if really interested. Amazing place, the banks offshore here are where the 8-10 day long range trips out of San Diego fish.

You could also consider going to BOLA (Bay of Los Angeles) in Baja on the sea of Cortez side. About a 10 hour drive I think and likely to have good action on PIG Yellow Tail, maybe Dorado, Jacks, etc. Some good bottom fishing there to I believe. You can get Panga trips right off the beach and can camp in this area for about $15 a night last I heard.

Closer up Baja Norte in San Quintin (about 4 hour drive south) there have been reports of White Sea Bass catches and some Yellow Tail as well. There is a small charter fleet out of there on Panga's that also have places to stay. Really cool trip. I can get that info for ya if needed as well.

NOTE>>>VERY IMPORTANT- Baja can be very safe and it can be a nightmare....DO NOT DRIVE AT NIGHT PERIOD. This is when the Cops AKA banditos come out to take your money from you. Drive during the day and you will be fine, once you get past Ensenada it is pretty good almost all the time.

If ya need anything else don't hesitate to ask, hope this is helpful.
