Not sure what you're asking, I see a fish that's not particularly hungry or aggressive taking a few swats at a lure and eventually hooking up, something we've all seen over the years.

You could say it's an excellent lure for that situation since he did keep after it.

    Canyon,

    Excellent clip thanks for sharing.

Really shows how so many Marlin strikes end up getting bill wrapped/snagged.

My thought is the marlin was trying to wound or disable the fleeing meal to make it easier for the kill shot.

Drop back would have nailed him in my view.

looks like a plastic without a bait not sure if dropping back would have the intended effect you want as the marlin may have lost interest as soon as the lure stopped performing.... maybe giving a few cranks on the reel and getting the lure to really move...much like a bait fish trying to get out of dodge would have really turned on the marlin's feeding instinct and he would have inhaled it?
sort of similar to when a billfish pulls down a rigger and you hand line it back to the surface and raise your hand above your head to keep it popping and smoking so the marlin comes back......
but then again what do i know my name is not 'capt' anything

    Trins,

You may be right and that is the beauty of Marlin fishing. I have done it both ways to entice a strike.

No Captain in my name either just love fishing.

This clip is from a DVD called " Blue Marlin of Ghana" by Gerard Aulong.

Learn secrets never revealed by anyone on the feeding and striking habits of the most sought after of the billfish and gamefish the grander. This is one of the most spectacular big game fishing videos ever produced. Well known underwater photographer and angler Gerard Aulong spent a full season fishing and documenting the big game action off Ghana along the western coast of Africa. During that time he compiled underwater footage of hundreds of Blue Marlin crashing the baits. This one hour video combines the very best of that footage and includes multiple granders from both above and below the surface of the water. Watch as giant blue and black marlin strike lures from underwater camera view. Many tricks can be learned from this fishing video that have never been known before. Not only is this video going to become something you will watch over and over again just to see what you missed each time but it is for a very good cause as well. 45% of the proceeds from this video will help in cancer research. The sun is more damaging to the skin than most realize and with your help buying this video some of the money goes directly into finding out more and better ways to protect you skin from the harmful damage caused by exposure. I will guarantee that if you are not 100 percent satisfied with the purchase of this video I will refund your money less shipping and handling on the purchase of this fishing video from me. Watch as the giant marlin attack fishing lures at their levels underwater! Learn just how to place your hooks on your lures to improve strike to hookup ratios of the billfish. It is a must have for any avid fisherman or club and will allow you to see just how marlin get hooked up.

I don't know if you can still order the video, that's all the info available as this DVD is from circa 2001.

The clip from the DVD was on youtube. I would like to see the whole DVD, let you know if it can still be purchased. Or if someone knows, post it up.

For me, one of things I noticed many times was how as the marlin, gently tapped the lure, it seemed like she felt/sensed the hook and then turned away abrutly.

Also noticed the hook and leader "APPEARS", let me say that again, appears, long and extending beyond the end of the skirt.

Right, wrong or indifferent, perhaps the skirt should "shield" the leader and hook to the sensing taps from the bill...just a thought.

I have the VHS tape from back when it was fairly new- I intend to get all my VHS converted to DVD at some point- it is a cool video.

I am a firm believer in staking the hooks in the upright position- don't know if the hook position would have helped or not. Staking it up may have kept it in the skirt better.

Makes you think about fishing lures with the drag backed off so she can finish her turn before it gets pulled away.
