    Getting pulled overboard question

I've read and heard very much on the subject of going over, how to avoid it and what to do if it happens to me. What I have never heard discussed is what should the crew still left in the boat do in these circumstances. What should you do when you are anchored or trolling, when it's the wire man or the angler? In the case of a wire man should the crew try to get slack in the line somehow. Maybe tighten the drag and break the line, or loosen it and hope the person can get enough slack on their own to get free? Are there some things a crew should specifically not do? I can only think of theories. Does anyone have any techniques that they've used successfully? I know there are numerous variable situations all needing a different approach but I still would like to hear some other opinions.
I am personally incorporating safety harnesses on my boat this year since I feel it is better to not get pulled over board in the first place though, I know I am probably in the minority.

they have a couple of diffrent brands out there. But it takes practice to know when to hold and when to let go!! I woudent want to join the UWWA (under water wiremen's asso.) myself. so a safty harness sounds good.

First off make sure he has a blade around his neck BEFORE crunchtime. No mate should be wiring a brute without some sort of way to cut himself free should he get wrapped. FREESPOOL, FREESPOOL, FREESPOOL! Give the wireman as much slack as possible. If you are pulling one way and the fish the other, there is no way to become unwrapped.

Secondly, never lose sight of him if at all possible.

And third, if he goes over just because he didn't want to let go, call him a dumbass!

Exclamation hope that never happens to me

couple rules to follow, 1, dont wrap leader around your hand, 2 pay attention when almost boating a big fish look at him after,
if you go over try to get free spool and hope to god the line parts
    just my 2 cents

I personally think that anyone in the cockpit needs one on them .

I have been pulled overboard, it happens so fast there is no one to help, once your in the water you are on your own.
I have a release knife on me anytime I am fishing.
