I am a tackle Ho
When your wireman is wiring, have him take 1 wrap. 2 is good but its much quicker to get your hand free compared to one, if something were to go wrong. NEVER wrap the leader. And lastly always have a release knife near or on you.

first rule...Don't beat yourself!
I have been over once..thats enough! I turned around to look up at the fly bridge with a nice yellowfin and had taken a double wrap fishing off Destin and he got his head down and I was wet.. 'stupid human tricks' are what usually are the worst thing you can do at sea. that was when I was around 22 years old. at 45 now I watch evrything that can happen from the captains standpoint and knowing how to take wraps / wire fish is very important to teach your crews. I do a bunch of fishing still in the bahamas and here off south florida pulling on some good size swordfish... be friggin' carefull!!! know your gloves, your tackle and be prepared. we use a lot more wind-on stuff anymore and the line can get tip wrapped so your chair or stand up angler also needs to know that things can go south real quick. I do have tag lines for a chair or for standup gear that will hold a person on the boat. If your mate goes over reduce the drag where he can get loose. work as a team also watch everyone. not but a month ago a friend of mine went over while high speeding wahoos.. granted he was not attached to anything but he said he was thinking about the wires catching him at 14 knots.. NO ONE saw him go over .. took a second for him to get up top and holler also.. so learn to turn down the stereo and get back to fishing. such a great sport let alone it's kinda cool to live. be carefull and pay attention to your gloves and how you wire and this should never happen.
