Guy Harvey has been saying the US is the world's largest billfish meat consumer for a long time. See his show "SuperFish' on PBS if you can, he depicts a beach in S. America literally covered with dead marlin and sailfish destined to be sold to the US.

where the hell do they sell billfish here in the states? i have only seen it in the market in central america. i guess it doesn't really matter because the overall topic is just F-ed up anyways. thats pretty sad.

But have always thought it was bycatch from longliners not that billfish where being caught as primary catch! But I just thought I would start this thread soley because He had "NO" idea this was going on till some of our own Sportfisherman.com members brought it to his attention months ago!
I for one thought he was joking when he said that he didnt know about it and would consult others about it,and came back on here and said that it was true! Im just pissed at the fact that he didnt mention Sportfisherman.com as us members here truly broke the story and NOT sportfishing mag.Really sad!!wouldent you agree?

Before you jump on the man, you have to remember that the magazines have editors and they can put what ever they want, in place of what he wrote so on and so forth.

I have seen it in the past with drafts and finals of articles from the authors then the final published product from the magazine. Always way different!

I think sportfishing mag is just scared of what their future reality really is, and we can all figure that one out.

Probably will never hear the truth on the matter. I am sure John will love this one for sure. I see a video coming!

Like Tred or hate Tred, Like Sportfishing Mag or Hate it, the fact of the matter is that ANY press is a positive for billfish.

The bottom line is that until diners vote with their wallets AND animal lovers realize that the kibbles they are feeding poochie are ground up billfish, there isn't going to be a significant change.

Tred has always maintained that he doesn't accept a penny for his column - in return the editors are not allowed to touch his writings. Don't know if it is true or not but that is what he says.
