    GBFT, VA Beach

Read on another site that there were some GBFT caught out of VA Beach. Any truth to this? Not rumor, first hand knowledge. The weights did not seem to match the inches on the other post I read, and someone also said they heard about a Giant at the twin wrecks in OC last week. I saw that fish, and it was 50 inches.

    Any info fellas?

Franky, My boss told me the same thing yesterday. He heard it from a friend in either VA or NC that their was a big school of 300 to 400 lb fish. I also asked if they saw any on the dock. I'll be heading down to MHC to fish on the Fin-ness when it comes out of the yard.

Bad report there Franky. The weight was right but the fish was 83'' in length. There was a fleet of about 8 boats that fished yesterday. Out of that fleet, there was I think three sellable sized fish caught, two 74'', and an 80''. One of those fish came from the triangle area, one from the fingers, and one from 200fa on the 340 line. There were also a couple smaller fish caught and some missed. Overall I think about every boat had a bite. Excellent bluefin fishing. Fish are scattered about just about everywhere in Virginia waters. Heard that several boats out towards the canyon had seen or caught giants as well as swords, longfins, and yellowfins. There were lots of the bigger giants seen around the hotdog area blowing out of the water, but if any of the guys seeing them had bites, none of them came tight. The weather is gonna turn bad. I dont think most are gonna get another shot out there until sunday.

    Franky,
The first report I know is true was from Tuesday. Richard Bartlett hooked three on Su Casa. Only boated one of them, dressed out she went 235 lbs. I dont know for sure, but they usually pull a green stick on that boat.

We ran in from around the 300 line and across the Hot Dog that day and didn't see any signs of them. We did see a couple blow up on the Triangles the sunday before. One big leap and they disappeared. One of my buddies was up north of the Norfolk all day and didn't spot any either.

The report I had there was from yesterday, wednesday. I fished the triangle area. As far as I know there was only one boat that commercially fished for the bluefins on tuesday and that was Su casa

I fished off Va Beach yesterday and we managed fish, with one at 73 1/2". The fish were in the deep south and east of the Norfolk Canyon in 55-59 F water. We also managed 2 yft around 35-40 lbs each. The fish were with the two tones and full of pencil squid. I had to reclean my boat today, just to get the rest of the squid out of the boxes.

It's gonna blow for a few days and I hope they hang here a little longer for those who haven't had a chance to get a fish or two.

I also heard of some longfins and saw a long liner bringing in some swords.

Can't wait to trailer south and try for some yft and eyeballs.

Good Luck to those who go.....

    Here's a couple of pics:
