FRI - SAT - SUN - Hatteras Slaughter
Beautiful day on Friday. Jake and Keefer drove down early Friday to join Greg and I for a day of combo fishing offshore. Dr. Chris Von Elton also joined us at the last minute.
Easy ride out to start dragging baits around the 250 line. Assortment of baits, but I don't think color, shape, or size had anything to do with it. Everything Jake and Greg put in the water got slammed.... We never quite got out full 10-line spread out. 5 or 6 big BFT hits, but no susi. Saved several nice skippies first off for bait to drop later. 11 or 12 hits from YFT left us with 6 in the box by 8:30..... It was wild. Jake, Keefer, and Greg did a great job keeping order in the pit while Dr. Chris was busy wishing he was dead all day .... and this is about the color of his face. Anyhow, we stowed the trolling gear by 9:00 AM and went to some numbers for dropping. Fresh skippy chunks are my favorite for dropping and somehow the day was going to be totally ours.... One fish after another, non-stop. Tiles, sea bass, grouper, a snapper or two and the occassional wild AJ kept us busy and smiling all afternoon. Great crew and great day.... goodbye winter. Back at the ranch it was chef Allen who stuffed us with seared grouper, tiles, veggies, hot buscuits and cold beer. I'm still full Saturday, we decided to just bottom fish. Greg and I were joined by Dr. Ike for an easy ride out. Again, non-stop catching, but only for a couple of hours as the weather started kicking up and we came in. Sunday.... forget it. 25 knots out of the northeast. Cleaned up, packed up, and hit the road. Thanks again guys! Becky: Your stuff worked great! Watched it run along the boat..... looked so good I wanted to bite it myself. Sorry we lost a few and we'll have to order replacements..... must have been something the crew did........ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

The grouper was blackened and ate before the sun set. Also, several of the larger tiles. Worked on eating some of the tuna and seabass tonight. Can't wait for the next trip down there.
