I used to be a hard core believer in the fluorocarbon. All the way until a couple years ago. I was channel surfing one day and there was a show about largemouth bass fishing. All i saw was fishing and paused for a second and they were talking about different types of lines. And they had a visual aid. It was 5 or 6 types of line and they had them in different types of water from gin clear to muddy and murky. And there were times that fluoro was nearly invisible and there were others were it stuck out like a sore thumb. This got me thinking about things and maybe fluoro isn't God's answer to invisibility. Are there times when it works? YES. Are there times when it hinders? YES.

The 2 minutes of a fishing show i caught added another piece in the puzzle. It gave me another factor to play with if i'm not happy. I still fish with fluoro but if the bite isn't what i'm expecting or i'm seeing signs that it should be better (reading lots of fish, seeing fish coming under the boat while chunking) I'll switch out and go with straight mono on some of the rods and lighten the leader on others. Being aware of fluorocarbon's inadequacies lets me account for them while I'm fishing and helps me catch more fish.

One thing is certain. Flouro is much more abrasion resistant which is very important when you are downsizing leaders for the chunk bite.

I'm also sure you will get anecdotal evidence from folks who compare notes and find diferent strike ratios.

Floro is also stiffer and I think it takes away fron the the action of a trolled bait. I remember back when the chunk bite was good during the day and we used 80 floro. When the bite got tuff we would tie right to our 80 PINK Ande main line and get bites. I like the Yozuri pink leader for my floro. I hardly ever use it unless chunking. Last year I thought it would make a differance on my planner bait while trolling blue fins on down at Masseys and the Hot dog. I got more bites on 200lb Momoi regular mono then anything. I was using 130 momoi and 100 and was consistantly getting bit on the 200 no matter where it was or what color Islander was on it. I even had a short rigger bite one day 40 feet off the boat on 200lb.
