Fishing Report from La Paz Baja California Sur 2/feb/ 2010

Hello everybody. This is Jorge Laris of the Fishermen’s Fleet in La Paz, B.C.S

While the storms in California tried to freeze and drown our customers not able to make it down here, the ones that did found some pretty nice winter weather, and fish. Pargo lisas (mullet snapper) are beginning to school at Punta Perico and Hans and Cornell did OK on them, using a mixture of sardines and ballyhoo. The ballyhoo have been swarming in Muertos Bay, and a trip back there once the sun is high can be productive (see photo). Along with the lisas they took one cubera snapper, our first of the year. Two yellowtail were hooked (estimated in the 12-17lb. range) but both were lost at the boat. When asked how that happened both fishermen and the Captain, Enrique, gave the Texas salute, pointing at the two other guys. While fishing for snapper at PP they also took 9 dorado who were still around from the fall. The largest dorado taken this week was in the 25lb. range. A few sierra were also taken. When using the ballyhoo a two hooked rig was employed in order to avoid short bites. These are a great bait, not always available here, and they are worth the work it takes to get them.

    Will have more info soon.
    GOOD FISHING
