fishing in grand cayman
We will be in the grand cayman sept 27 thruoct 3 for a 25 wedding anniversary. I will be taking my wife and my 13 year old son who has been recently diagnosed with friedreichs ataxia. My son enjoys off shore fishing and it is unknown how long we will be able to do this. We dont want to go for a boat ride but if anyone has any info on the charters down there I would appreciate it. He also loves snorkeling so if we dont fish it is not the end of the world just trying to do everything we can while he can. if you would suggest any thing else while we are there we will appreciate this also our first time there. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I also am going to the Caymans in Dec. I tried to dig up some offshore fishing info but found very little other than there is a decent Wahoo bite in the winter. Unless I find differently I think I am just gonna go bonefishing while down there.

Scott,
I have a time share there at the Seven Mile Beach Resort, next to the Marriot on the south end of seven mile beach. We are just 1 mile north of Georgetown. All of seven mile beach area is awesome. I have been told that the fishing charter operations are ok. I have seen other posts where people say "don't bother", "save your money". I CAN NOT comment on the fishing there. Believe it or not I fish about 100 days a year and I have never fished there. The scuba diving is the best!! Anything on the north wall. Snorkling is Great!! My wife and I snorkle a lot off seven mile beach. The Marriot has a nice area of reef, also Cemetary Beach on the north end on seven mile beach. We also snorkle after the stingray city trips near the inlet. Stingray City is a must!! See if they take you to snorkle afterwards. Check with your resort, most can schedule activities for you. Try to go when cruise ships aren't in. The Bubble Sub was good, a little expensive. It's a 2 person sub driven by a guy on the back, they take you around nice reefs by Georgetown, we seen lots of reef and fish. Atlantis Submarine at Night was cool. they dive off the edge at night and we seen a lot of big tarpon feeding. There are a lot of good restaurants all along 7 mile beach, some stand alone, others are in resorst. The Wharf feeds the tarpon after sunset, seen about 300 30-80# tarpon right off the beach. The Turtle farm was cool, newly expanded and now like $50.00. This is on the north end of seven mile beach. Hell has a post office you can go in and buy a post card. Thats really it. Taxi's are easiest transportaion, but the bus is cheaper. Busses look like the taxis. You have to look at the letters in the circles on the front of the vehicles. If you are going to a resort or a place where you will have an activities person, you have nothing to worry about. They are happy to help and arrange anything you need. The people are very nice. Try to exchange some money from US to CI (Cayman Island). The Island is very expensive, food, drink, etc. If you are thinking of Rum Point, rent a car. It's like a $160.00 cab ride round trip from 7MB. Most resorts can schedule jetskis, water skiing, parasailing, etc. Any specific questions email me. Have a great trip.

A bit of info for ya...
The 12 mile bank is where most of the charter boats troll around. The fall will see a fair share of wahoo bites. I've fished several different months there. Spring into early summer sees the best billfish action, although I've gotten bites out of smaller blues there in Oct, Nov, and Dec as well. You never know unless you head out. Try over at Governor's Harbor to find a boat to charter.
