Fishing in Charleston, SC

I'm heading down to visit a friend at College of Charleston. I was wondering what the fishing opportunities would be for a college kid with a little money.

What tackle should i bring?

what could be caught from the shore?

is there head boats there and if so are they worth it?

there used to be a head boat out of Shem Creek in Mt Pleasant, I forget the name..... I went a couple times....mostly caught bee liners and rudderfish, but it was a good time
