Smile FISHIN FOOL - GAFFER MAYHEM - 5/27

HATTERAS GAFFERS "FISHIN FOOL" STYLE 5/26/07

    Boat:
    Fishin Fool
    31' Contender FA

    Crew:
Lucian (Mr. Fishin Fool), Sandy (Mrs. Fishin Fool), Fred, Leanne (Fred's Wife)

Trailered down to Hatteras with an ALL VIRGIN BLUE WATER CREW and headed SOUTHEAST. I started putting out the spread and WHAM, NICE BIG BULL GAFFER crashed the bait, Leanne is now on the rod (HER FIRST EVER MAHI) and it is a STUD.... FISH IN THE BOX...

I continue to put out the spread and here comes another, Sandy (Mrs. Fishin Fool) is up, she battles the fish to the boat.... ANOTHER MAHI IN THE BOX...

Next up Fred, and he is now putting MEAT IN THE BOX...

I put out my little Calcutta on a nice light rod and managed 2 very nice Bull Gaffers... It was a BLAST!!!

At the end of the day, we went looking for Mr. Wahoo and I
    managed to put a WAHOOINTHEBOX.

Constant action ALL DAY, Gaffer after Gaffer, NO CHICKENS, BIG BULLS, few cows.... Could barely get the lines out and they would go down... We also caught a small BL yellowfin, which we released to be recaught when it's all grown up.

One of the Mahi spit up an 18" YFT, like I said all were nice quality fish.

We could have caught a lot more fish, but how much do you really need, we had a LOT OF MEAT!!!

    Final Talley:
    28 + Gaffer Mahi
    1 Wahoo
    1 BL YFT Released

Both LARGE Fish Boxes FILLED to the TOP, Almost 400lbs of meat.

WHAT CAN I SAY, AN ALL VIRGIN CREW, EXCEPT FOR ME.
    THEY CRANKED LIKE CHAMPS.
BY THE END OF THE DAY, FRED WAS RIGGING, LEADERING & GAFFING!!!!
WHAT A GREAT CREW & DAY TO BE IN THE BLUE!!!

Saw lots of friends who all had a banner day, Mike (Swancaller), Bill Bugue (BBogue), Talked to Lou (Chumlord) and met Luckyduck (Charlie) at the dock.

Also a BIG THANKS to Swancaller, who loaned me a TIRE and helped me out at the dock. My trailer had a flat and my new spare was too large.

Thanks, I usually put a big horse or spanish out, but with an all green crew I didn't want to have them all make me Walk The Plank.

I kept a simple spread of 8 lines, no teasers and 5 were windons. We cleared lines as needed... A First, NOT A BIT OF GRASS TO SHAG... LIFE IS GOOD..

Nice report and pictures Lucian. This Carolinas gaffer bite of the past two weeks has been nothing short of spectacular.
Way to break in the new offshore crew! I imagine you had to work your butt off, but didn't feel the pain.
    Thanks for reporting.

Great report and pics Lucian. Congratulations to you and your crew on a fine catch. Sounded like a very busy day for you. Nice mahi bite to get the newbies broken in.

It was great to run lines again.. It's been a while since I was PIT MONKEY and CAPT. My wife and crew did an OUTSTANDING JOB cranking those mahi to the boat. I was pretty happy when my bud Fred, learned to rig hoos, leader and gaff. It made my job a little easier.

I can't wait to get back out... I plan on sticking a few tags in some BFT soon and may also try a little light tackle fishing on some tunas.

If anyone is looking for a GREAT TIME, I suggest you head to HATTERAS NOW, the bite is definitely INSANE.
