I think Admin is going to let me have this space
Bienvenidos, Jorge! And welcome to SFC.
Jorge is a really good guy and will fit in here with reports from one of those fishing paradises that we all dream about, but don't often get to. That's ironic, because it is also one of the least expensive hot fishing locals of them all - inexpensive and easy to get to in the first place and then remarkably inexpensive to fish from and stay in to boot (check out the rates on their website for proof of that one.) I for one really look forward to Fishermens Fleet reports.
La Paz is a modern, beautiful city and is the capital city of Baja California Sur (southern Baja). It's right on the water, and is populated with genuine, warm Mexican people...no hucksters, drug dealers, or hookers getting in you and your family's faces every fifty feet, like some others.
If you're looking for honky tonks, titty bars, the aforementioned hucksters, condo peddlers and other pests like that, you won't find them in La Paz. But if you're looking for a peaceful, relaxing, pleasant place in Mexico for you and your family to visit and fall in love with, La Paz is it as far as I'm concerned.
And unlike too many "fleets", this is a big one that has been around for a long time. They have nearly thirty super pangas and some bigger boats and I can't say enough about their captains, some of whom have been with them for fifteen years. They are top flight guys with repeat customers having their favorites. Me too. And again, unlike some other "fleets", their captains aren't the usual, "pin a bait on and soak it" type. You'll find many of them using some rare but very effective lures and techniques not commonly found anywhere in the world, not just Mexico.
The fishery itself is diverse and seasonal, the latter being something that Jorge and David Jones are scrupulously honest about - another difference between them and some others.
Now, they hate it when I say stuff like this, but one of my favorite things to do there is to go down to the beach where the pangas are run up through the surf at trip's end and onto the sand (darned near worth going there...it's an E-ticket ride and a half!) and casting small bucktails for the hordes of pompano, that's right, pompano and BIG ones, that crowd the surf for scraps from the afternoon fish cleaning. I love eating those things and the fact that just like the other fish that you catch, they will cut, process, and vac seal them in industrial vac packs, then freeze them for you to take home - all part of the overall package - makes that part of the trip a requirement for me...YUM!
Do yourself a huge favor and take a peek at their website. It will just take a couple of minutes and they very well might be the best that you have spent in a long time. And in these times of economic problems and their effects on our fishing, especially in world class, exotic locations, be sure to check out the services and the shockingly low costs, compare them to a trip just about anywhere else, or even that of a single offshore charter at home. I'm sure you'll be shocked.
Then go, catch all of the marlin, tuna, dorado, wahoo and roosters, cubera's, etc. that you want, eat all of the great Mexican food you want, have yourself some Mexican cervasas, enjoy the warm, Mexican hospitality...but please, leave my pompano's alone!
Muchas gracias, Jorge. Bienvenidos otra vez, y buenas suerte, amigo!
(Send more pompano! I'm out!)
