Got out a late yetserday morning arriving at the nw corner of the tails around 10 am. Very good reports from other captains working the area overnight and at dawn hooking up with YFT and Marlin.
Worked over to the east flats hitting the pots and got into 2 YFT around 45lbs.
The two higlights of the trip were when a small thresher shark, maybey 5 feet long passed in front of my bow, came around into my spread and started blasting and muching on the zucker on my starboard flat line! Iv'e never seen anything like that before.
2nd was on the way back to montauk about 20 miles north of the tails we spotted the tuna birds working the surface about a 1/4 of a mile off our starboard side so we decided to go check it out. Getting closer there was a white balloon looking object in the water. When we finally were close enough it turned out to be a dead whale, maybey 25 feet long or so, and the oil slick and smell it produced was pretty thick. We circled around it for a while but didnt see any sharks on it.
Nice day on the water.
Tight Lines,
Don
