We headed out of Montauk to the Tails Sunday morning 8/12 arriving at the NE Corner by 6:30AM. Water was clear blue, 71 to 73 degrees (but off by about 6 degrees from last week). Lots of life; porpoises and whales were abundant. Trolled down to the SE corner and worked into the east flats. Had our first double hookup at 9AM on YFT, one at 54 pounds, 2nd at 78pounds. Fish hit small zucker on the flat line and 4 inch squid daisy chain on the rigger. Worked back around up to the NW corner and into the west flats. No other knock downs today for us.
Worked the mahi pots on the way back and picked up a few around 5-7lbs.
Coast gauard cutters where out in force today apparently escorting a submarine in the area and keeping the fishing boats out of a 10 mile radius.
