I dont fly meatfish flags anywhere...
It is very Uncommon in NC
Many charter boats do for "advertisement," espesially in the northern areas of the east coast in MD, DE, and NJ.
make sure there down by the next morning
Miltiples for tuna, OK. Multiples for mahi, not OK.
Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.
The only real etiquette for flying flags is the 24 hr thing. Everything else is just based on everybody's opinion I have no problem with flying some flags after a great day on the water. However, I personally am not a fan for multiple flags for any species. Catch 15 fish, 1 flag is plenty to show everyone you caught some fish. Multiples in my mind is a little cheesy. Do you really need to toot your horn that bad? Do you want everyone from the marina to come over and shake you hand and tell you what a great day you had?
Do whatever you want as long as I can make fun of you and you don't get all Jammed up. If you can't afford to buy the tuna flag don't run up a dirty white rag up your rigger. I used to love to laugh at the "Slammer" with riggers full of chum stained rags. It is good advertising though so do what you want. If you see a boat with multiple yellow flags flying please make a joke about it for me. Ha! to funny.
It's your boat, do what you want.
The "next day" rule varies on where you are, just as all the other "rules" do.
Buy the flags, fly them if you want. Keep the fun in the sport.

If you leave your flags up overnight in some spots they might get taken down and nailed to the dock.....
As far as anyones opinions about it being 'gay' or 'cheesy' etc... I don't agree. I think if you go out and whack em and you want to let the people on the dock or passerby's know it, go for it. I personally love seeing flags, and love flying them for the guys I work for....It boosts morale all around the docks, and is a great conversation piece.
I really don't get why people hate on flags so much. The worst thing about flags is the price tag. Last year in OCMD at any given time there were enough white marlin flags flying to buy a new viking...... But what isn't a ripoff in our sport??
My rule is I don't fly a dolphin flag alone (only one if ever) and release flags only for Marlin. Other than that, I let my crew decide if they want go fly them but usually they do! I see no harm at all in flying them.

They should make a flag that says "DNR please board me". I like flying flags running through the inlet, but lately it's been just a target for the DNR.
