Question Fish on !!!!! Clicker's ON or OFF ? Debate

It appears that I am one of one that when a fish is on the clicker gets shut off... Its a pet peeve of mine ..

I am always communicating as to where the fish is, where its running, how much line etc...

But quite a few capts here are saying on at all times...

I understand with charters and not so experienced anglers need to know but even with that said when I am running the boat experience angler or not I am always watching the line and the angler or the mate is doing it communicating it back up

We leave the clickers on while trolling for a few reasons. One if we have multiples on, the man at the wheel can tell what each angler is doing. You can here if everyone is reeling, if a fish is running,If someone is stalled out on a fish etc. Something else when we are hooked up we always keep the boat in motion and more times than not we get another hookup and we can tell what all the rods are doing when hooked up. Also we take quite a few photos and with billfish the man with a camera can tell when one is getting ready to jump and smile for the camera.
It also makes for great sound effects on video!!

On! But you knew that already!

I want to know what the fish is doing.

When your watching the line... how do you know how fast it's coming on or off? The reel is usually hidden by the angler when viewing from the helm.

Makes people too excited...unless your using a broom stick, the captain can gauge what's going on by the rod tip. It can certainly avert disaster though if a beginner bumps the lever too close to free spool.

WHEN CHARTERING...FOR US ON THE RUN-OFF....IT IS ALWAYS CLICKER ON FOR THE ANGLER WE DON'T CARE HOW GOOD HE OR SHE IS......BRIAN HAS FIVE THINGS GOING ON AT THE SAME TIME AND I HAVE SIX....AND THE CLICKER TELLS US BOTH WHAT THE FISH AND ANGLER IS DOING OR NOT DOING

WHILE TROLLING WE HAVE CLICKER ON THE 30,50'S BUT QUICKLY TAKE THE CLICKER OFF IF WE MUST DO A DROP BACK AFTER A MISSED BITE (CLICKER OFF FOR A FASTER DROP BACK)

HOWEVER, WHITE MARLIN TOURNY FISHING CAN BE A WHOLE DIFFERENT STORY WHEN IT COMES TO CLICKER ON-CLICKER OFF THING AND EACH BOAT CERTAINLY HAS THEIR OWN WAY

    While trolling: ON
    While dropping back: OFF
    Once hooked up: ON

I once fished with some guys who insisted that the clicker be off while trolling. Key word: "once"

Rod tip, position of the line, sometime the anglers expression tells all especially on BFT I guess with our boats , we move with the fish so much and stay with it.

You have BFT fished with me...clicker came off and I stayed right with the fish front and center of the stbd gunnel. He was deep but never that far away..

I guess I am just weird I will shut up now
