First Tuna trip on the Risky Business good day with the Bluefins

Got a small crew together to head offshore to the break at the spencer/wilm but felt it was gonna be a little to sporty for the 35. I was looking at my sirrius weather on the electronics all night and it was showing 20+ knot winds where I wanted to go. further north it was only ten. This is what the big man upstairs was telling me before the trip what a omen...lol

so I made a change and went for Bluefin. I gotta say the change from shark fishing to tuna fishing was just what the doctor ordered and it felt good to just not drift around aimlessly looking for a mako. Anyway we pulled out at 4:30 and I musta sucked a bag or somthing because my port engine overheated in the inlet..back to the slip I go. pissed as hell. pull the boat in the slip let her sit for a bit and look around. after a half hour I fire the port engine back up and she drops in temp and holds at 168 I let her idle in the slip for a bit and without any more overheating we push off. got to the grounds and put lines in. I was rigged for yellowfin and had to roll over my stuff to bluefin while we were trolling and once I got the spread switched over we started catching fish. the first fish to hit the deck was a nice 48 incher for the table.

after that fish we had steady action the rest of the day with a bunch coming unbuttened most were the typical schoolie footballs with some bigger fish mixed in.

all the small ones were released from the outside of the boat to prevent beating themselves to death on the deck.

scotty with the 48 incher came in at 50lbs on the scale.

the port engine ran a little hot coming in so today I will be changing the raw water pump. but aside from that we had a great day on the water it was a little sporty in the morning when the west wind picked up a bit but layed out to stellar conditions in the afternoon.
The Tuna action now is great with yellowfin to the north and Bluefin to the south.

    Thanks for the report .

On a side note. It sounds like you have an air bubble in your freshwater system. If it was the raw water pump the overheating would not be intermitant. I had the same symptoms on a volvo diesel once and it was a matter of bleeding the freshwater system of the engine.
