First sturgeon eggs hatch in Abu Dhabi
Sustainably produced caviar enterprise the Royal Caviar Company (TRCC) has hatched its first sturgeon fish in Abu Dhabi. Almost 120,000 sturgeon eggs arrived from Germany last month and of these, more than 80 per cent have successfully hatched.
The young sturgeon will be raised for the production of caviar and sturgeon meat products, as well as to form a part of the company's first broodstock for breeding.
TRCC's Abu Dhabi-based factory uses world-leading pisciculture technology from its partner, United Food Technologies AG, to produce “the best quality end-product in significant volumes each month.”
“Thus, the factory's state-of-the-art and controlled facilities provide an ideal environment for breeding, as recent success has shown. Moving forward, TRCC aims to have sturgeon eggs hatch on a yearly basis to allow the factory to become entirely self-sustaining,” the company said in a statement.
Robert Harper, Group Commercial Director of Bin Salem Holding, owners of TRCC, believes the company has what it takes to meet the world’s increasing demand for high-quality caviar.
"This first substantial hatching is an exciting milestone for the factory as we look towards long term self-sustainability here in Abu Dhabi,” he said. “Over 120,000 eggs achieved a hatch rate of 80 per cent, which is highly encouraging and we look forward to this batch of sturgeon producing our Year Five harvest."
TRCC is currently the largest caviar factory of its kind anywhere. It produces high-quality caviar and fillets on a monthly basis.
When fully operational, the 50,000m2 factory can produce up to 35 tonnes of caviar per year, satisfying almost 10 per cent of the world’s supply and demand gap.
TRCC expects its first commercial batch of caviar and fillets to be released in the second half of next year.

Very interesting. Hopefully that will help wild sturgeon stocks to not keep decreasing. I'm curious of how their facilities look like to breed and grow all that fish.
