I've been lurking for a few months due to not having anything to post so I guess I'll introduce myself. First, this is a great forum and glad I found it, great reports, coverage of the tourney's was GREAT, and enjoy the hunting forums also. My name is Jack, GE retired me 5 years ago with a package/buyout at 58 years afther 38 years of service, and I love this retired life. I usually fish the CBBT in Va for all species and try to get out in the deep blue on my boat the Fishin'Magician a 2220 Robalo. I live in the central part of Va, Keswick which is about a 2 1/2 hr ride to the CBBT. I had not fished for damned if I know, why not since 8/23 but got a decent window to go offshore yesterday. Stayed with a friend at Nags Head who has a place and was also was going fishing yesterday which a buddy boat is good down there. Okay, I've rambled enough about the above so now to my first report: Left in the dark about 5:15 in the dark with Craige (friend) who was in front of me, who was following a Charter out of OI to get thru the "cut" and out of the inlet. Oh yeah, weatherman said 10-15 SW waves 2-4, need I say more that "HE" missed that one. As we left the inlet and out about 5 miles the West wind was blowing but doable for us. Heading about 80 degrees out which was north of the 650-700 where they had good reports for the previous week. Got to the 820-830 line in about 2 hrs and set the spread of 7 rods with sea witches and a Green Machine on the WWB. Within a half hours Fish On - 2 in the boat. Trolled that general area for the next hour or so and finally picked up another. Marking the spots where we caught fish we fished we picked up 3 others in the next 3 hours, slow but only one miss so we felt good. Around 12 I started moving south as that's where a few boats left that we saw seemed to be stopping. Fish were bustin the top and the next hour we caught 3 more. Excellent day for us and I had said previously I'd like to leave about 1 PM. Forgot to say when we got to the spot seas were running a good 4 feet with a few 6 to 7's in there busting over the bow on the West trolling directions. We left with the fish still being there, but the seas had calmed to 2-3 and about 20 miles for the inlet down to 1 foot. Great trip with my son (42) and 2 others as our crew. Hope I can get the pic to work of our efforts.![]()
