First Light weekend Hudson Report

August 04 & 05

Capt Barry Massone and Capt Bruce Krebs ran the First Light out to the Hudson Canyon over the weekend.

Started trolling at sun up picked up a small yellow fin and a couple of skippies around the Tip. The around 8:30 all hell breaks loose monster boils beside the boat. One fish misses; second one pulls the hooks and the third one is on. After around an hour in some sporty sea BIG EYE in the boat 170 lbs. Back on the troll Picked up a long Fin rest of the troll NADA.. Night time on the chunk did not produce much. We had a hammer head swimming around the boat and I spotted another shark swimming around the boat at the same time. So we decide to catch the hammerhead right. So I put out a hearing and the shark comes up and looks at it and swim’s on. I guess he didn’t like it so I begin to make a bait out of one of the skippies and off goes the hearing. Hammerhead right after a spirited fight it turned out to be a huge Blue shark. Nada the rest of the night for us.
Back on the troll for a couple hours before we head back to the barn. Hook up big fish! Marlin on 350 to 400 lbs on a 30tw, half spool ripped off the real. The fish is putting on a show then something happen in the Dacron backing and pow the line breaks with the marlin grey hounding for a min. or more after she’s free.

We continue to troll and score a small Mahi and another nice yellow fin.
