    First Blue Marlin but

we missed the first white of the season out of Cape May. Decided to make the run offshore [98 miles ] to the 74 degree water at 1350 fathoms between the Baltimore and Wilmington canyons. Ten minutes after getting the lines in a white comes into the spread, we had 3 shots at him and couldn't come tight. There were a lot of whales in the area, so we continued to troll around for the next 2 hours without a bite and then the blue marlin crashes the right short. 40 minutes later we get the release. The bait was a ilander flasher with large bally and 9/0 circle, seas were flat with long period swell, and blue was approximately 225 lbs. Long slow day but you couldn't ask for a nicer day to out on the water.

    Thanks Mary and Wireman.

John, we did make a last minute change in plans when we saw the sst. I actually have an eerie pic of the blue about 5 feet down in the water but the camera is still at the boat. I post it tonight.
