RI Fintage Shark & Tuna Report (Late - 7/29)

Sorry for the late report, trying to get caught up...busy weekend.

Headed out Friday with my co-worker Dave and Mike (let it ride). Headed to BI for bait, but there was so much shit in the water, the frames would load up before they got down. Didn't take too long before we screwed.

Headed out to the base of Jennie's Horn hoping the drift would move us up the horn, but the tide influenced us more than the wind (or lack of LOL).

Set a drift anyway, good temp break, and an hour and fifteen later we saw a fin racing around the balloons......bam, Mako takes the deep bait! Seeing it a couple times, appeared to be 150#-175#. After about a 15 to 20 minute fight, he/she spits the hook right at the boat, bait and all. Either wasn't hooked well or something...no idea. Oh well, lines out again, that was a good sign!

Shortly after, got 3 Blue Sharks, 2 were 9 1/2' (180#) and one about 4 to 4 1/2' (25#-30#). All tagged and released.

Nothing for several hours after that. Just a bunch of BSing, staring at the slick, putting meat in the water LOL. Finally decide it's time for lines in so we can troll for tuna for a while. Got all lines in but one, then Mike sees a breach in the slick a couple hundred yards out. We watch and it happens again, this time we felt it was a Mako.

Mike and Dave each yo-yo baits back out, and our deep one was still out. Dave hooks up, and we're awake again

Fiestly sucker buzzing all over. I finally get a look and decide he's small or borderline. We get himt o the boat, calm him down a bit and get a measure. 52" to the fork, 2 inches short (not that I'd take one quite that small anyway.....not worth it). Tag her and off she goes.

So, now we leave the lines out a little longer while we get the tuna spread decided and laid out. No more action, so we pull 'em in and start trolling.

Worked a nice break that bounced up and down, lots of grass tho. Hooked a nice SBFT probably mid to high 30"es, lost at the boat. Picked up another smaller but still probably 30-something, got her in, and bled, buried in ice. Then picked up a big bluefish, also in the cooler for next trip LOL.

Great weather once we got a breeze to straighten our slick/baits out. Great company, and plenty enough action.

Here's a few pics of Mike and Dave. I never seem to make it in the pics LOL. Rarely anyway haha.

We had a great day on the water with a few sharks and a couple tuna. With the way our season has been up here to raise 2 Mako's in one day is nothing to sneeze at. Next time we'll make sure you get in some of pictures, I promise. What Eric neglected in saying was that I happened to be the one with the rod each time we dropped at fish at the boat Oh well, it happens I guess, I'll just chalk it up to Captains error!!!!

Anyway, thanks again for the invite. We'll have to do it again sometime.

P.S. - "It seems a little fishy, something's gonna happen real soon!!"

Hahaha,

Mike, I'm not one to throw stones, LOL, could have been anyone on the rod, LOL......we all have those days

Gotta give Mike credit tho, I forgot about his end of the day comment as we pulled lines in.....

"It seems a little fishy, something's gonna happen real soon!!"

Just then we had the second Mako breach LOL......he called that one!

LOL JD, I'd put pics on CTF also but it's easier to do it here where I can upload them right in the thread.

Thanks Admin JOHN! You make it TOO EASY lol
