RI Fintage & NE Angling "shoot" (& my first BILLFISH!)

Hey guys,

Helped out Andy & Rich and the Northeast Angling crew & Capt. Bill Brown on another film shoot, as their camera/support boat last 2 days.

Had another fun time as usual, great bunch of guys! Once they were set up sharking and we had crew/equipment situated, they again sent me off to troll for Tuna/Mahi/etc until they needed me (they would call if they needed "my" camera crew).

They caught several Blue Sharks, including a 325# monster that day. Pretty good, despite our North winds (terrible wind to fish, as well as east).

So Tuesday we trolled around and found NO tuna at all.....but then we see a large fin, tail, and snout come right up to my flat lines!! He started banging both flat lines, back and forth, we were mesmerized. And I'll admit, having never caught or fished for billfish, that I didn't realize I should have dropped the rod and let the line back to him.

That didn't matter, however, because he was aggressive and kept coming/trying for them! It was several minutes he followed and then he took one flat but never popped the clip......then I see the line moving towards the other flat, and I knew he had the first in his mouth and he was trying for the other. He grabbed the other, but dropped it, then took off with the first, popped the clip, and off he screamed! What a rush, having never caught one of these beautiful fish!

He dumped 1/3 of my 9/0 Senator before we could start gaining on him at all. After about 5 minutes he popped the hook. So, we never landed him but it was a hell of a rush to even hook one! Was good sized, I'd say 60-80 pounds (White Marlin). Very exciting for us, none of us on board had gotten one b4. Unfortunately we got no pictures because we were mesmerized at first but then when Todd went to get the camera, he took off with our flat and disappeared from view, LOL. Never jumped but was on the surface way back.

Wednesday, we were again sent to troll once they were set up. They caught more Blues and also a small Mako, all with a fairly nasty morning Northeast wind.

We had only one small tuna jump behind our spread and take one of the long lines on a bird, then drop it. Nothing after that until we caught a nice ~15# beautiful Mahi once the seas dropped right out to nothing. Water was like glass and we saw the fish come up, take it (flat), and run. Beautiful colors on this one! Gaffed him green, and he destroyed my boat. The other guys were calling us over while we had this one so we rushed it, LOL. (But we did have a few minutes for a couple pics!)

Anyway, it was another fun trip, tiring, but great time!

Great Job and Nice Pics!

What kind of "boatwash" do you use?

Was that your camera man who goes barefoot in the park?

Captain Bill Brown is one heck of a guy. Been hoping to get out with himn again sometime this year.

Glad your getting such good use from your boat this year. Keep those reports and pics coming!

Geesus holy hell, I saw less carnagie and blood when I toured the slaughter house on killing day. All that from a gaffer--- good gracious, Greenpeace would have the entire Atlantic fishery closed if you ever came to Carolina and got into a swarm of Zebra slobs.--- Oh yea, Pretty work

Guess he missed the fish box off the gaff first time around. Nice bloodbath shots though gotta love it aside from cleanup.

LOL, I wasn't "set up" for "boxing" a lot of fish, let alone one bloddy Mahi.....I had the cockpit as "clear" as possible for filming (note the 2 150 Qt. coolers tied on the platform) ALSO note the bloody yellow camera case on my engine box LOL.....the cameraman that "owned" it wa son the other boat and had a surprise when we got over there LOL.

The cleanup sucked.....scrub brush on a pole to loosen it all up, then hand scrubbing with a kitchen sponge (green scuff side down LOL). It was hot and sunny, the blood baked quick. I had blood up front even on the underside of my hardtop, and am still finding dried spots here and there LOL

Oh, Marty....speaking of Mahi poisoning LOL...

I did end up with a Mahi-mouth-shaped bite mark on my ankle when all was said and done LOL.....was wondering what was stinging later on when it got all salted up LOL
