    Find happiness in a Wahoo

With everything going on in the gulf states after Katrina, I felt like I needed a little morale booster, a little pick me up. Just a little something to help me get through the day.

And what came to mind was wahoo, not wahoonbox, but wahoo. No offense Marty - you do bring a smile to my face with your videos and inspiration. fall is around the corner and the mid Atlantic is looking forward to a good wahoo season.

So lets talk wahoo, what are your favorite wahoo lures? All you guys that make lures sport them! I want to see what other guys are pulling. Dont show me the cheap junk you show your buddies - show me what you pull out at Tournament time.

Ahi Slayer, WahooNBox (when you get back), Patudo, Deep C, Wahoo King, and everyone else show me what you got.

If you have a good wahoo story or picture of a great catch put it up. Lets have a good post to help everyone ease their mind a little.

I will post my favorites and some pic's of what I am hoping will take the big one at the end of Ocober - the Calcutta Wahoo Challenge in North Carolina.

Never found happiness in a wahoo but did find a baby marlin once . Over at Chub Cay early in our season they can be a pain in the scuppers chopping up everything in my nice pretty marlin spreads. When I do decide to open up and thin the striped death out I go to my blaster in 502 color... Fast, slow, with hoo or without, she's a constant provider.

Yielding stuff like this is an every day deal over there...

But a word of caution. Make sure you get your pit entirely cleared of stuff that can get caught up by their tail. Otherwise you wind up running a perfectly good 9/0 through your mates leg and have to waste precious minutes of good fishing time to get it out!

I'm a pretty lousy wahoo fisherman and don't fish for them anywhere near as much as I would like to, but when I get the chance I prefer 20 pound spinning tackle with rapalas trolled as fast as I can, normally around 7.5 maybe just under 8kt if conditions are nice and flat. Madeiran wahoo average between 45 and 60 and they fight very well on the light spinning tackle. Best one I've gaffed on this gear was 35kgs (weighed on the scale) that's about 77 pounds?

The high speed gig is without doubt a great way to fill the boat, for market (although you gotta weigh it up against your fuel bill), or to win a tournament. I don't really like it, but then I'm just a silly sod who likes to mess around with them. The real wahoo pros are guys like Ahi and Wahooking.

ps. DeepC that's one seriously pasty white leg you've got there..

That's some of Dropback's work--- he don't take prisoners. Actually the gaff was lodged somehow in the skull so he had to rip it out.

    Wahoo Ascension Style.

Here’s my favourite Wahoo snap, we went 17 fish average weight just under 50lbs on a 4-hour trip start to finish. Have had a couple of better trips but no camera to show it unfortunately. In November when they are schooling up you just cannot get a spread in the water. I also like shore fishing the deep-water rock marks for them with a heavy Australian Raider lure. Life’s good when the Wahoo are in town. Top lures Halco Giant Trembler (Orange Tiger) fished real short & Roddy Hays Nemesis (Black & Red) fished long, if trolling faster speeds a Unicorn fished long.

love this thread...here try this one:

John Ep. was on this trip...148# wahoo caught on a Ray's Lure. Blue Water TB2 in Green and Black. It was without a doubt, the best producing lure for us in the Islands this past season.

    Here's an 80#er as well...
