FIGHTING LADY, MADE DREAM COME TRUE

Yesterday had the pleasure of fishing with Mike, Mark and Mikes dad Rick. Mike and Mark are locals here and Mikes dad was visiting from Greenbay. Mike had BFT'd before even had a com Lisc. for a couple years and bagged one on his first trip out 2 yrs ago. His dad had never caught one before and he really wanted to get him one. We have been 5 out five times this year in search of a beast to no avail. During my safety brief in the morning on the way out I filled them in, and and to my surprise they all understood the chances of getting a hook up and the odds. We dumped the mess in at O dark thirty and were off. Didn't hear of many hookups, Runoff had pulled 2 off by 1030. During the morning troll I gave them some advice, showed them how to rig some things and the planer rod to improve their off shore catch and arsenal. At about 1200 we had a MACK attack, clipped off both the planner baits. As I was rerigging the second planner bait Rick came out of the cabin from a nap, he only had 3 hours of sleep the night before. I put the line out set the drag walked back to Rick turned back around and we both saw it, the BFT BOUNCE. Clearing the lines went smooth as silk. We got Rick in the chair and it was game on. It took him a few minutes to get the hang of the bucket harness but when he did the fish didn't stand a chance. He was a feisty devil that did the give and take up and down several times but in 20 minutes he met the end. We got a quick measurement and was 71", even with the elastic tape measure he wouldn't make 73". The crew decided they would take it home and call it a day. After I got the mess cleaned up and things settled I was shaking hands and giving high fives. I stuck out my paw to Rick, 6' 4 250 lbs, he took my paw and wrapped me in a bear hug. I felt like a bally getting the poop pushed out of him. That was F-ing great he said, but I don't know how much longer I could have done it. You know to see someone that happy just makes my day.

We fished again today and came up a little short, 69". Some say its not size that matters, its how you wiggle your worm. And did I tell you.......

GOD I LOVE THIS JOB!!!
