I try to find a lure that matches the color of the spreader I'm using and drop it back like 10 - 15 feet behind the spreader.

Been fishing and experimenting with and designing spreaderbars for many decades now. One of the neat things about them is that you can run whatever kind of lure you like as a chasebait, either clipped to the bar, or the IGFA legal way for tournament or record fishing.

That's good, but throughout all of the years that I have been fishing with and experimenting with them, I've found that a hollow squid in a different color or size has worked the best for me.

Either a Green Machine or a SN Mauler with a hook in it. Other than that a natural, (try a rigged squid)
