Crewed up on Oblivion out of VA Beach on Tuesday. Had our sights set on some meat in the box so we started around some buoys/pots in 25 fathoms and quickly boated a dozen mahi on the troll. Most were around 10 pounds. Could have bailed all you wanted. Trolled out to the 50f line and found some more gear to work around. Some more mahi and then we get a bite on the Wahoos. 3 lines get cut off (only had wire on the deep baits to start) and we have one tight on a Spreader bar. Pulls off at boat. A while later a white is tailing and we make a pass at it. My bud Jim and I are ready with some pinless dink baits but the fish commits suicide on the bar. Of course, the hook pulls about 2-3 minutes into it.
Clock is ticking and around 1:30 we get a screamer bite on the bridge rod (wire leader) and boat a nice 50 pound hoo. After that, the deep rods got hot and we boated 5 more...all in the 40-70 pound range. We had some try to eat the teaser and ended up hooking a triple getting 1 more fat one over 50. To end of the day, we get another triple (planer, bridge and long rigger) and boat all three. 40-60 pounders.
Ended the day with 10 NICE Wahoos and 18 mahi in the 8-12 pound range. AWESOME trip. Thanks again Dave and crew.
