I need some new downriggers. Which ones do you like? I am not looking for anything fancy.... just manual wind .... inexpensive but not cheap. I have been looking at both Canon and Penn. Any suggestions?

I like the scottys, low profile and I've been using the cheap hand crank one to pull salty 24 and 32 for a few years. The brraid has never damaged the spool.
Had good luck with Penn's myself.
I like the Penn's as well. Prefer the electric over the manual though.
Have use the penn's for years to pull anything planers dredges and live bait with no problems
penns or cannons both are good, but if you go with the cannons pay a few extra bucks and get the stainless steal spool, thats what we run and we love them
penn doesn't make downriggers anymore, that said they made some good ones. I like the Cannon Uni-troll 10ts, stainless steel spool and really sharp looking in white and stainless
Cannon's customer service is the best in the business aaaaaaaaaaand I would actually recommend getting the electrics bullet proof and hands free, worth the extra money to push a button and forget about it!!!PEACE
Look around and find you some used penn fathom masters with the short boom. I've cannons in the past, and every one had trouble with the anti-reverse dog seizing up. I've never had any trouble with the penns.
