The Dog Days
Below is a fishing report from my Dad, David Jones of Fishermens Fleet in La Paz, BCS Mexico.
Some of you may have read about the Pargones, Cubera Snapper, or Dogsnapper as they are called out on the West Coast in an article he wrote last year in the Big Game Journal.
Cuberas are one of my favorite fish to catch, and in my opinion THE best eating fish around.
Fishing is picking up, with each successive day bringing depth to the great variety that we've had the last month. Wahoo, sails, dolphin, amberjack yesterday. A couple of Tuna, more dolphin, some beautiful Pargo Lisas (Mullet Snapper) the day before, the orchestra is getting tuned up. Playing the stand up bass, the "dog house" to those that have schlepped one of those things around, is of course the cubera snapper, or pargon as they are known down here. These guys have been goin' at it down here for a month or so now, and they keep gettin' bigger. 60-80 pound mainline, 100-120lb. fluoro leader, 9/0 hook, maybe a 7/0 trap hook if you are from Delta Junction, an unwitting ladyfish, and you're are ready to rock n' roll on the dogs. Oh, and a rod belt. Tryin' to take one of these bad 'uns on without that would be like being married to Nancy Pelosi, very hard on the groin. 'Nuf. Thanks to The Bobs for the perro pics.
Have Fun,
David
