After sitting at the dock through this week's funky weather in Cape May the fleet hit the rip on Saturday and Sunday and not a Whitey was left undisturbed. Please add in or correct me if I miss anybody or get the numbers wrong:
Numerous other boats had twos and threes with some Blue Marlin mixed in and the Viking 68 had not hit the dock when I left. Great to see all that laundry hanging!
We were fishing with the fleet and didn't get our first White bite until we got into 40 fathoms. It's very hard to compete with these guys. I guess I need to rig 2 double dredges for next time if I expect to raise a lot of Whites. They definitely got it dialed in and my hats off to them. One thing I noticed was that they seemed to be trolling a bit fast for the Whites. We adjusted and still couldn't get them up while in the fleet.
We were 4 for 7 on whites and missed a blue marlin, the attached is one white jumping on a double we had, that is Covert Mission in the background, they had a very good day along with the Badger and others!!
There were a lot of white marlin flags flying at cape may marine, Ucnle T, Trust Me, Nu Twist, Sea Splendor, Exile, Reely Hours, seemed like they all crushed them. May be a new tournament between the 2 marinas ?????? Whitey set it up.
Like I said I left the dock too early and headed away from town instead of into town so I didn't go past the creek and Cape May Marine. Sounds like the boys (and girls) lit em up all over town. After a hard scratch of a summer it is sweet to see. Looks like the weather is going to hold everybody down till the weekend. Do it again !
Talked to Sandy from the Covert Mission and they had 13 releases from their overnighter.
I was out on Intuition on Saturday and we wound up w/only 2 and alot of nice size mahi. Still enjoyed ourselves out there though, yes it could've been better for us but still got to see some awesome fishing being had by all.
WTG everyone from the Cape May fleet!!!! Let's all hope the wind lays down soon and the fish stick around!
