Diving Dredge..Huh..Well I built one

I had a customer ask for a "can you build one of these" type requests..so I did..didn't take any pics of it with the CanyonGear custom touches but it came out real nice..beefed, spiffied up the cleat rope, shrink tubing and extra chafe gear etc..

The idea is to pull a lighter dredge down about 40 feet. Thats' a Mann's 40 Stretch.

Anyone ever use one of these?

Canyon,

I made one last year. Made with one of the wide "stretch" (looks like a big bunker) lures under one of the "strip" teaser dredges. Real Purdy! Frank

Yep, that's where the customer got the idea, sent the article, that's where the pic came from. Here's the link to the article by Poveromo:

Slick idea, may have to build another and try it in Bimini..

My question is how to keep the stretch running true above 3knots? These baits are slow trolling baits I've used for king and they don't hold up very well. One fish jacks em up, could only imagine the trouble with something behind it.

Why would you want to pull a dredge 40 feet deep? If you can't see a teaser then it shouldn't be in the water.

Yes, I use that and it works awesome. Depending on speed, sea, and wake he probably won't need all that line. Don't even think you can pull them off mono. My Tournament Cable one is like 800# stainless cable where the Stretch bridle is. Then the mainline is 800# COATED...notice how i say COATED...cable.

That thing pulls and will saw right through your hands. The coated cable is nice because I cleat it off shorter so i get the dredge to just flutter in sight.

While I like the concept of getting the dredge down a bit, if it's out of sight and too deep, you won't be able to capitalize on all potential billfish bites. It's often a challenge to pull a fish off the dredge in the first place, but if it's out of sight you are not likely to see any fish that are behind it unless they happen to eventually break away from the dredge and come up on the surface. You have to be able to have a visual on your dredge to maximize all your potential bites. Just my .02
