Diawa reels

has anyone used the diawa saltist reels and if so how did you like them

Yeah, I have the smallest (14lb class) on a shimano Convergence rod, which I use for inshore c-bass, tog, stripers, & flounder. I have it loaded with Power-Pro. Great little baitcaster. I can cast a bucktail a country mile.

Not sure what size you're looking for.

I use the low speed ones a lot. Primarily bottom fishing, some jigging. I think they are the best "budget" braid ready reel. Weakness is the antireverse under heavy drag and the anodizing which scratches up very easily.

Folks here in NC love the high speed ones for live bait and light trolling duty and seem to also like them.

Any specific questions?

im thinking about buying some for offshore trolling for tuna and sharking etc

If you like trolling with star drags as opposed to lever drags, I imagine that the saltist 50 (largest) will do the job. Note however that these are small component reels (not single piece aluminum frames). Probably OK for school bluefin and medium yellowfin (30 -50 lb) and medium (100 lb) sharks, but with 22 lbs of max drag these reels would likely not stop a 100 lb tuna on the troll or big mako.
