Delmarva Yellowfin/Bluefin...
Early Saturday morning, son Chris cranked in a bluefin while trolling at the Hambone.
Instead of trying for an over 47, efforts were directed at catching a mako. Unfortunately, only a couple duskies found the mackerel enticing. Unbeknown at the time, the yellowfin bite was going off down in the Norfolk. This bite continued into Sunday with double digits catches for those willing to make the run. But, all good things come to and end. Yesterday, (Monday) made the 73 mile trek but was regrettable greeted with 63 degree water that seemed void of life. Disappointment prevailed for two hours while trolling in search of the 67-68 degree water that previously held fish, but it had pulled a Houdini. Wound them up and ran north towards the 461 bump where the last clear satellite shot showed warm water pushing in behind. Found a two degree break (63.8-66.1) on the 800 line in 120 fathoms with rips and life. Dropped them over and was back in the game.
Left the yellowfin snapping (20-30lbs) when we wound them up. Hope this is a sign of what may be in store off the Delmarva coast the next few weeks.
