    Deepwater Fish Identification...

Greetings all. Here is a deepwater fish that a Marlin had spit up on us, while we were fishing far off the Texas coast in the Gulf of Mexico...

Not sure if it is a Black Eyed Dragonfish, Hammerjaw, or Viperfish (or something else)... it is NOT an Atlantic Cutlass (ribbonfish)!

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Pretty interesting nonetheless...

I think it could be a lancetfish:

I'm interested to know whether the marlin that spat it up was a white, or a blue? Did you hook it near an oil rig, a weedline, or in open water?

Looks like a ribbon fish to me. I caught one a couple years back while deep jigging for squid in the thermocline on an overnighter.

The first thing that came to me was a lancetfish also. I was just looking at one first hand the other day as I always do in Barry's in Beach Haven while eating a cheesesteak. He has one mounted over the door caught aboard the Anthricite. I look at that freaking thing everytime I go in there. Looks just like it!!!
