Most tourneys I have fished already give a bonus for circle hooks. I agree with Mako---no sense killin them just to show them off. With that said I WILL KILL ANY SLOB FOR THE GREEN. I wish it wasnt that way but it is and I could use 500k. |

The challenge is that the bonus points typically only apply to release tournaments. Maybe they could do something like add 1.5 lbs to the weight for the others? While I don't like to see Marlin killed, I don't mind the small number taken during tournaments and that is basically the only time anyone does, or should, take one. We're talking about something like 23 white's a year for the entire country landed by recreational fishermen. If tournaments go to release only, many of them will go defunct. Check the OCMD stats from last year and look at how many boats fished for release points and how many fished the regular tournament. I think there were about 7 in the release. That number might go up if release is the only choice, but there is valid concern that it will make the tournament unattractive to all but the professional crews or the teams able to fish marlin several times a week and year round.

QUOTE; todays paper more tackle shops, party boats and charters boats going out of business. A catch and release fishery while we pay more for FUEL
and LICENCE FEES. I think its time for the recreational fishing alliance and jersey coast anglers assocciation and united boatmans of new jersey and new york to get together and try to win a court decision to show fisheries management that we have OUR LIMITS. WHERE DOES IT SHOP? the NMFS is running a amok in an almost hysterical campaign to reduce hook and line fisherman to catch and release only we have to stand up now guys thats everyone from canyon runners to surf casters to baymen and sportfishermen boat builders and off shore lure makers and all the alliances to gather the dues moneys and FIGHT the NMFS there are more set backs than gains here we have to band together here boys F-politicans they ignore the anlgers and all your billions of dollars spent from below the dmz and above please do your part take action so we can say tight lines again thank Capt Brian Daley write to your congressman |
