    Dead-Drift Bait

All the talk about a dead bait drifting and getting bit has me thinking. I do stuff a little outside the box sometimes, but here is my thought.

When I was a kid we used to take earthworms and a syringe to them to make them float. Inject a little air.

What if you could make a bally that swam upright on the surface at 0-1 mph? Imagine it just floating there instead of sinking. Obviously a naked bait, maybe a spanish?

Ohhhhh....what the hell do I know.

Every hot new method had to be tried by someone who didn't know.

I have seen styrofoam used to change the buoyancy of chunk hook baits to make them drift properly. Could you stuff a ballyhoo from the front and rear with styrofoam to make it float ? Not sure if would be balanced.

might even be easier to get one of the very realistic soft rubber baits now, and impregnate it with some type of clear floatant..

like was stated previously...the first person to troll a green machine may have looked funny trolling green rubber squid...but someone had to start it..

It would be pretty easy with a squid and a popping float. Hell SD, I'm going to do it when the chunk starts. Ill let you know.

We don't have ballyhoo up here, so I don't know how that would work, but if you do some experimenting, play around with where you place the styrofoam, a little weight, the hook placement, and a skewer...

When chunking we shoot our floater butters with that canned expandable foam. It makes them float and does'nt require any extra rigging.
