    Day 5 Mid Atlantic

    For Immediate Release

    August 27, 2005

What a finish! In typical Mid-Atlantic $500,000 tradition, Friday once again proved to be “moving day” at the tournament as numerous fish were weighed-in and the leaderboard took a beating as the standings were changed in all of the major categories. Light and variable winds offshore created glass-like sea conditions and 167 boats headed to the offshore canyons on Day Five of sportfishing’s “Main Event.”

Leading the news on Day Five was the shake-up in the white marlin division where Joe Aiello’s Reel’n & Deal’n weighed a 67-pound white marlin in Ocean City and moments later Pete Brancaleone’s Volatility weighed-in a white marlin of the same size in Cape May and they finished in a tie for third place. Each received $31,428.75. Bob Pacilli’s Penguin held on to win the category with the 75-pound white marlin caught on Tuesday and walked off with a tournament record payout of $731,037.50! Ted Wills Pipe Dream finished in second place with a 68-pound white marlin caught on Thursday and received $125,715.

Changes also occurred in the blue marlin division when Charlie Duerr’s Sea Hag backed to the scales in Cape May at 8:30 last night and weighed-in a blue marlin of 418-pounds caught by his son Billy during after a 2½ -hour battle. For their efforts Sea Hag received $62,857.50 as they finished in third place in the category. William Burris’s Melina with his 699-pound blue marlin caught on Tuesday held on to win the category and he received $213,512.50. Jeff Leerink’s Speculator finished in third place and received $125,715 for his 525-pound blue marlin which was also caught on Tuesday.

A major change also took place on Day Five in the tuna division when Pete Cacoperdo’s Centurion backed to the scales in Cape May and weighed a 193-pound big eye tuna which took the top prize of $188,572.50. Phillip Infantolino’s Heart to Heart finished in second place with a 78-pound yellowfin caught on Monday and received $110,715. Another change occurred on Day

points. Third Most Points Tuna went to Phillip Infantolino’s Heart to Heart with 39 points.

The prestigious Most Points Overall award went to Nick and Trish Rodriquez on the Par Five with 600 points for six white marlin and one blue marlin released during the tournament.

At the awards ceremony held last night at the Canyon Club Resort Marina in Cape May, Tournament Director Bob Glover with the assistance of weighmaster Chris Booth and Assistant Tournament Director Mark Allen, distributed a tournament record cash purse of nearly $1.7 million to the lucky winners as all the participants enjoyed a lobster buffet dinner.
