Day 1 Foolish Pleasure white marlin warm-up

    Saturday July 27, 2007

I fished aboard the Foolish Pleasure docking at Indian River marina Delaware. Gradywhite273 invited me to fish the first annual White Marlin Warm-Up. I want to thank Gradywhite273 and his gracious family for the wonderful invitation and fabulous adventure offshore. The fishing platform, a 61 Viking with more amenities than an average home. This was undoubtedly the finest vessel I have ever been offshore in. This experience in true style is and adventure I will never forget. Thanks again to the Turner family for a awesome day offshore.

Now to the fishing. We rolled to the Poormans looking for the temp break. There were more profound breaks the Foolish Pleasure was watching all week. The limit on distance from the sea buoy quickly narrowed the areas I felt that would hold marlin. The limit of distance was put in place by the officiers and chairmen running the tournamentThe Washington had a huge break I would of liked to try.

Arriving just short of the Poormans the rigs, rods, teasers and troll pattern were being readied. At the sound of the announcement coming from the Captain at 8:30 the spread was lowered over. The hunt began. Everyone was on high alert and keenly focusing on the white or blue marlin. Like a racehorse pinned to the star gate, Wahoonbox saw the port long rigger twitch. The line was dropped back, back, back. I was thinking this is great. The first 30, minutes and knock, knock who’s there. This game is in the books. The catch was a albert. Not quite what we were hunting for. Pushing on the Captain glides past a set of buoys and reflector. The Mahi were waiting like attack dogs. Gradywhite273 locks down the drag, not to disturb the teaser and short rigger and skips the mahi to the ice locker. Pushing deeper the Foolish Pleasure continued hunting for a marlin. We trolled the rest of the day with out a sniff. The weather was great, the company was superb, and the adventure came to a close. Lines in and we pulled the spread. The awesome 61 Viking roared to life and the captain pointed the nose west. I have not heard of the final results of day two for the Foolish Pleasure. I hope they bagged a marlin for the win.
