In the midst of moving, starting new job, getting settled in, and everything else....I FINALLY GOT OFFSHORE THIS PAST WEEKEND!!!! And it felt damn good. Couple of buds from VA trailered boat down to Nags head and met me at my house. Headed out of OI early Sat morning looking for some tuners....Got a nice gaffer right off the bat followed by a through back yellowfin. Trolled out to a 6-8 degree temp break and caught caught a beautiful 35lb mahi. Got baits reset and bout 10 minutes later I saw em.....Bink, left short goes down, bink, right short goes down.....bink, bink both longs........Had 3 sails tearing up our baits.....hooked two and got one in...released of coarse.....Couple more mahi and a couple short strikes to finish the day.....Saw atleast 300 hammers out there also....
Sunday.....Flat calm, light and variable winds......got baits out and went to donate our $5 bill to the water....I knew we were screwed when it stuck to the back of the boat and wouldn't go in the water Trolled around point for bout an hour then headed east again. Found a beautiful weedline and instantly 20lb gaffer on....Lost him about 15 yards behind boat.....Ended up getting 5 mahi that day, but went way averboard looking for a blue.....
Great weekend with great friends and I finally got back out on the water!!!!
Next trip....Hatteras Shootout on July 8th and 9th with Capt. Jay on his boat BITE ME!!!!!
Sure was a good time. Definetly have to do it again. That sail made the whole trip as did the 35lber. As for Sunday, lets just say I won't be limp wristing the damn sacrificial paper to the fish god's again. I'm surprised I didn't catch more shit then I did for that. Thanks again for letting us stay and good luck in the tourney. We'll be down their fishing soon and you and the little lady are always welcome,( minus the rumplemintz )
