I am interested in getting a Daiwa Saltist for jigging. The model I am looking at for fast retrieves is the SST40H. Any info on this reel is appreciated. Thanks George

nice reels, for the price
change drags and maybe bearings and they are REALLY nice
close to saltiga specs
I just picked one up the black 50 size from bass pro. So far I like it but I'll have to let you know after sunday. Thats when I plan to test it with some pullage from BFT.
Good luck,
Michael
I have two 50H's. As suggested, replace drag washers with Carbontex from SmoothDrag ... you'll get 25# plus for drag. I've had no problems with my 50H's.

My father has the Daiwa Saltist he had a problem with the drag. I have 2 Daiwa saltigas just had them serviced the guy said they look like there new why did you bring them in. I caught many tuna and sharks on it never had any problems. i would say get the Daiwa saltiga.
I have a 50H and replaced the drags as recommended. It gets over 20lbs of drag, but after fighting some 150-200lb Blue sharks awhile ago I realized that the anti-reverse is toast.
I think you're OK with these reels up to about 18lbs of drag then you start pushing up against the limitation of the internal metals.
I have Saltist 40 & 50 great to deep drop with and they cast great to. All in all a good real for the $.
