Austin, Check out this thread,
I believe it has what you are looking for.
Including a link with with a table for line sizes.
1 more wind on ? I promise
thanks that helped!!!!
Basil makes excellent, high quality wind-ons and I for one believe that his prices are great for what you get and the work that goes into it.
Like many here and on that other post, I like making my own leaders and considering the fact that I used all wind-ons on forty big game outfits on my charterboat both for regular fishing and as Dacron Hammers for wahoo (see the article on my website for the details), I needed easy-to-make, inexpensive, long-lasting ones that were fast and easy to change topshots on. So I opted for and have always used Dacron for both my wind-ons and as backing on all of my reels. There are many good reasons for choosing Dacron that I won't go into here - they are in my books.
As far as matching up the right line diameters, one thing that you have to resolve is what brands of mono and Dacron you use because there can be significant diameter differences within and between the two types of line. I use Cortland Greenspot for all of my Dacron needs and Berkley Big Game leader material and so I know exactly what goes with what as far as sizes are concerned.
I strongly recommend that you use US made Dacron, not just because it's the right thing to do nowadays, but because the US brands - Cortland and Gudebrod - are far higher quality than any of the offshore brands that I have ever seen. There is just no comparison.
As far as life is concerned, both Dacron backing and wind-ons will virtually last for years of hard core use.
Hope this helps.

ok thanks is Magibraid dacron any good ??? its made in the usa???
130lb dacron should work just fine...Gudebrod rigging floss is a good choice to serve as is 30lb solid spectra. Thanks for the props Fred![]()
No prob, Basil...you deserve 'em or I wouldn't give 'em.
Austin,
I don't know about that Magibraid, but if it's made in the USA, it's probably private branded to BPS by either Cortland or Gudebrod. Regardless, I'd use the original brand. They developed the product and deserve our support, IMO.
