Coming back from my bonita massacre at the Norfolk Canyon on January 25th, we ran across this 6 foot long by 3 foot wide black box that looked like a Coffin floating about 35 miles offshore in the middle of nowhere. Stuck in the coffin was a bunch of signs that read, Chief Petty officer Car Wash, and Support your local Chiefs and things of this nature. We opened the box up to make sure there were no actual bodies inside but there was just a bunch of fundraiser signs from the Chief Selectee initiation from back in September. Kinda crazy..

another thing we saw off OI a couple of years ago was about 8 Big Hammerheads eating a dead pilot whale..the blood slick was 30 yards around...we thought it was a weed patch until we got up on it...Bob

Last year on my first Grouper trip, we left Carolina Beach Inlet in the dark -that's a scary inlet any time of day. About 25 miles out, still dark with little visibility, we spot something large coming at us with a slow rolling motion, much larger then the boat we are on. Slow down but not fast enough to avoid a collsion with a about 500 white party ballons tied together & set free my a local hotel the night before........ICM

Did spot Pilot Whales 4 miles from Masonboro inlet this year.

How come I haven't been on the boat for any of those? Maybe I should just stay home or here in London

Anyway, how about this for a catch and release off of the coast of Virginia?Actually thought it was a body when we saw it floating in front of us.

A 60 foot-ish sportfish blew by me doing 30 while I was trolling near the lanes , rendezvous-ed with freighter, turned and headed back in 10 minutes later.....

Hmmm...

Well short of the canyon three years ago, we hooked a mako. It hit the 60' bait and shot up to the surface. At the surface it went apeshit in the direction of our boat. It covered about 50-75 yds in the blink of an eye. I remember thinking to myself "Oh sh*t...this thing is gonna end up in the boat!"

It spit the hook about 10 yds. off and went back to the deep.

Thats about it.

the seasnake thing i don't know about. None of them exist in the Atlantic!

There's a lot of creatures still out there that have yet to be officially discovered and classified by scientists...
