I guess I thought that I could find someone there that would let me pay their rate which would pay their expenses, and give them a profit, and if we do land the fish then they can sell. Its a win win situation for them.
Please if you fish there and read this post contact me here to let me fish. It would be 3 guys with a lot of experience. Lets do this standup style.
Is it crazy maybe, but what a challenge to be had. If anyone knows a boat there also please let me know.
Thanks
SFC, lets start covering the canada charters here as well.
I know a great charter boat up in Maine, Do you want to fish PEI or just Maine?

These guys will let you do whatever you want as long as you pay for the boat for the day.

Although, the ideal situation for fighting them on standup is to do it out of a small boat, no bigger than 25'-26'. It makes it much easier on the angler and allows you to keep the fight as short as possible. Let me know and I'll send you the contact info for the boat.

Being older than dirt and having fished for bluefin and bigeye both for sport and rod and reel commercial for many years, I was lucky enough to have personally witnessed much the same thing as what's on that video. And lucky enough to have seen it in more than one location, the Mud Hole off Jersey and down in the Carolinas.

It surely is an amazing sight to see! We fished 130 bent's, big circle hooks (yes, even back then), and the fish were so powerful and fast, you had better be fishing with an experienced crew because the combination of big fish, heavy gear and bites at boatside on green, green fish could be very dangerous indeed! I've known Dennis Braid for a long time now and can remember when he and some other west coasters went east and fought and landed some very large giants on standup gear. Not for me! I always figured that was way too dangerous a game to tap dance in.

And once we limited out and got tired of cutting the hook tips off and releasing fish, there was little else to do in both locations, except to finish off the bait and watch the show.

It was awesome! And there were some mighty valuable lessons about tuna and tuna fishing to be learned, if you were of a mind to.

Yup, I might be old and feeble nowadays, but I sure was lucky back then! I hope that some of you get to see it in the future. ('Course, you'll have to find some tuna that aren't afraid of the boat if you want to do that...!)

G Man,

I should have known that you'd wind up in the middle of this . With all of your experience pulling on big tunas of late, I have no doubt you could handle it, stand up or whatever. Spinning gear? I have long been a proponent of that kind of tackle for much bigger fish than most even imagined and you sure have proven that was right. But GBFT? I don't think so. And you probably aren't thinking of trying it on the really big beasts, at least I hope not.

To me, those gorilla's are big tackle fish of The First Order. I believe that they take quality rods and reels, big ones, rigged right from top to bottom to fight realistically and furthermore to fight fast enough for them to have top market value if kept and more importantly, for healthy releases.

One thing is certain...you're gonna know you've been in a brawl! I wish I could be there to see the look on your face and to hear what you have to say on that first run. Good luck and put the boots to a couple and don't forget your Angler Saver!

Fred I just look stupid hahahaha In all seriousness a 550 pounder was taken off New Zealand by the world famous Yoichi Mogi (inventor of vertical jigging) behind a trawler. It can be done and I intend on doing it if I have to stop fishing for every other species until then to do it. Anything under 600 I believe can be done although I will use a different spinning reel than normal

But with that said ....

First priority is to say I landed a true giant so I will be ready to rock in my bucket harness, mate saver and safety line attached to a 4'8" Braid Powerplay rod with a 80w attached to it.

Spinning will come second on this trip
