Hellen H
Aloha
The Helen H was a headboat in Sheapshead Bay. They moved their operation to Cape Cod. This headboat has assigned positions and will not over book. Ya make yer reservation then wait around the parking lot for the booth to open. There is no gas station close by so get yer coffee for the parking lot 10 miles up the road. Get in line quick so you can run to the boat as yer name is called. Put yer rod on the rail to mark yer spot then run inside and stake a claim on a place to sit and run down stairs to stake a bunk. There are plenty of bunks but seating area gets tight due to twenty thousand buckets of jigs and extra coats ect The boat leaves at midnight and ya start fishing at about 6am depending on fish location ect,,,There are plenty bunks and the galley is the best of any headboat. The bunk space gets cold so dress warm, bring bag! The fishing is drift fishing with a 16 oz nori or vikie jig. We used to put two red twister tails with hooks one foot above the jig so you wind up with 1 hook on the jig and two teaser hooks. The whole rig is about 3 or 4 feet long. The rig is clipped on the mainline via an offshore snap swivel. I heard they changed the rules allowing only two hooks per line. In this case I would remove the jig hook and keep the teaser hooks. All rods on a headboat jigging cod should be 8 feet, if ya ain't got one borrow one. Ya drop the jig and sweep the rod up and down so a short rod will not sweep the jig as much, resulting in less fish. The reel should be a 50h or simmilar. Nothing fancy is needed. 40 test mailine. The longer rod makes handleing the 4' rig easy and ya can swing small fish over the rail Cod fish are best caught in water surface temps of mid to low 50s. they come in to spawn following the temps and will immediatly take up residence post and pre spawn on inshore structure Monkfish can be caught on the hook on the bottom of the jig but only expect to see one on the entire headboat Pollock can be caught on the drop, so pay attention as yer jig falls. Pollock swim about 50 feet deep suspended. They don't taste as good as cod so don't worry too much. Big pollock will be on uncharted wrecks in the spring Wolfish show up on wrecks and rocks on the Nov full moon. These buggers are as ugly as monkfish but tasty. They like clams better than jig teasers The Helen H is the most professional run party boat on the entire eastern seaboard as far as I am concerned. It's the only headboat I could count on selling my catch to cover the cost of the trip. Ive been on at least six charter boats and caught less codfish than a trip on the Helen H The crew is not corrupt and will not skim the pool I hope this helps, be glad to answer ??s ahi |
