cleaning and restoring curtians
I have an older set of curtians that have minor scratchs and are a little cloudy. Can anyone tell me how to clean or restore the plastic.

Hi Birdhunter, This is the best I've come across. First I use the cleaner and follow it up with the polish. I've gotten this at Boater's World as well as Waste Marine.

I use this stuff called plexus. But be sure to read the instructions on it. It is the same stuff the NC marine patrol uses. It works GREAT.

mequires and plxus are both good. 210 polish and cleaner seem to me to be the same stuff with the 210 being kinda "generic",lol(a few dollars cheaper") Collonite insulator wax also works good. Lots of good stuff out there- If you curtains were made from strataglas then you can lay them out in the sunlight and use a little heat (like a hair dryer) and the cloudiness should disappear. If they are not strata and are a cheaper plastic then the plasticisers in the plastic are "migrating" to the surface and that cannot be fixed. The same thing happens when you see the yellow brittle edges on some folks curtains. hope this helps-

I'll second the comment about PLEXUS. I have used it many times and it works well. Just remember not to use anything even slightly abrasive on the clear curtains(includes rough cleaning cloth) or you'lle have cloudy curtains permanently.
The first time I used plexus, I was totally amazed how it worked. They looked like new again. Just read the directions and follow them. Good Luck!! |

Here is another option for you. orBrite will remove small scratches and any film that may be qresent to clear up the curtain. You apply it with a soft rag then towel dry and buff to a shine.
BUT.. if you have strataglass you need to use IMAR yacht soap for them. DO NOT USE simple green on them! that stuff dulls them faaaast!

210 is the heat but if you have strataglass use a cleaner that is made for just that.
