THIS NEWS BRIEF JUST CAME TO ME BY EMAIL FROM TOURNAMENT HEADQUARTERS NC

Subject: Circle Hook Suspended Rule Approved

I just got word that the "Suspended Mandatory Circle Hook Rule" was
approved and will be effective Friday. It will also be published in the
Federal Register on Friday. The non-offset circle hook in natural baits
rule will be back in place Jan. 2008. I got the call from Randy
Blankinship with NMFS/HMS St. Petersburg at 5pm today. We now need to
focus our efforts into making a better rule and supporting research on
release mortality for billfish (esp. blue marlin) in our fishery. Just
getting the word out for now - I will have more later!
Good Fishing,

Randy Gregory

Thank you for the update Box...

I just got a notice from NMFS but don't know how to copy and paste PDF adobe format stuff...

It says suspended until 1/1/08 effective upon publication. The instrument was dated and signed the 7th by some one named Burger for Risenhoover...
With that I'm gonna go to the store now and buy up a bunch of sneaky secret hooks to use with my secret sneaky baits so maybe I can get back to feeling good about the spread I'm dragging...

Atlantic Billfish Tournament Circle Hook Temporary Suspension Final Rule

Just got this from HMS News. I could only post one of the two attachments that were sent in the email.

"Please find attached the email notice and unofficial Federal Register
notice for a final rule to temporarily suspend circle hook requirements
for anglers participating in Atlantic billfish tournaments through
December 31, 2007. Circle hook requirements will be reinstated on January
1, 2008. The official Federal Register notice will publish May 11,
2007, and is effective immediately on publication."

Circle Hooks

I fished in Mexico this year with circle hooks. Once you got used to them they were great. I will continue to use them on the tournament circuit this summer.
