? @ circle hooks

I am working on a way to rig a plastic bait or lure with meat to comply with the new tourny rules.

We can all agree this is what a circle hook looks like.

What makes it work? The gap? The shank Length? The overall design?

I do not know but do you think this hook would work with a longer shank? Why/why not?

i dont think the super long solid shank would allow the circle hook to turn, and set itself.

thats just me.

ive switched over to circles now for just about everything i fish for..from kings/cobes all the way down to spots/flounder lol

only thing i dont use them on anymore is Sheepshead.

i love them.i actually have much higher hookup/landing ratios with circles then J's.

use them so much its like second nature in setting the hook. been using them since i was little in NJ, dad would rig mullet up and just tell me to reel when we fished for bluefish lol

sorry for the rambling lol

Jesse

There are alot of ways to rig deadbait with circle hooks. Here is a pic of my marlin pitchbait. Don't be scared to try new ways.

Here are a couple of other ways to rig with circles: These were rigged with Owner Tournament legal circle hooks.

These are the rigs before rigging:

Why do you crimp your circle hook and not snell it?

Tournament Approved Circle Hooks

Most tournaments will dictate the acceptable hook. I put together the following page with all the hooks claimed by the manufacturer to be tournament approved. Each tournament is different, so make sure you get the right hook for each tournament.

We snell our 8/0 Eagle Claws for Sails but usually crimp our bigger circles because of bigger leader size.

Chuck

And here I am trying to redesign hooks?

I had no idea. After listening to alot of people complain about not being able to run meat and a lure with the new tourny regs---I guess we all stand corrected.

Do you sell them pre-rigged? Can an avid fisherman like me rig those baits as pretty as your pics?
